Foliom ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use Foliom on macOS, iPadOS, iOS, or visionOS.

Documents Stay on Your Device

Foliom is a document-based Markdown editor. Your Markdown files are stored where you choose to save them — locally on your device, in iCloud Drive (if you opt in through the system file picker), or in any other location you select via the system file browser. Foliom never copies, uploads, or transmits the contents of your documents to us or to any third party.

No Account Required

Foliom does not require an account, sign-in, or registration. We do not collect names, email addresses, or any other personally identifying information.

Markdown Rendering Is Local

Live preview, syntax highlighting (Prism), math (MathJax), and diagrams (Mermaid) are all rendered locally on your device. All required scripts and stylesheets are bundled inside the app. No content is sent to a remote server, and no third-party content delivery network is contacted at runtime.

Network Entitlement

On macOS, iPadOS, iOS, and visionOS, Foliom declares the network client entitlement. This entitlement is required by the operating system to initialize the sandboxed web view used for the preview pane; without it, the preview would not render. Foliom does not use this entitlement to send your documents or any personal data over the network.

Analytics

We use TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service, to understand general app usage patterns (such as how often the app is launched and which features are used). TelemetryDeck collects anonymous, aggregated data that cannot identify individual users. The contents of your documents are never included in analytics.

Purchase

Foliom is a one-time purchase through the Apple App Store. Payment processing and receipt management are handled entirely by Apple. We do not collect or store any payment information.

Third-Party Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or share your personal information with third parties. The only external data transmission is the anonymous analytics described above.

Permissions

Foliom uses the standard system file picker to read and write the documents you open or save. It does not request access to your photo library, contacts, microphone, camera, or location.

Data Security

Because your documents are stored locally on your device (or in your own iCloud Drive), they are protected by your device's built-in security features, including disk encryption and your passcode or biometric protection.

Your Controls

You have full control over your documents. You can move, rename, or delete any file using the system Files app or Finder. Uninstalling Foliom does not delete your documents — they remain wherever you saved them.

Children's Privacy

Foliom does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children. The app is suitable for all ages.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
